Cookie Policy
Last updated June 1, 2026
Draft - subject to revisionThis Cookie Policy explains how Circles uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them.
1. Overview
Cookies are small files a site stores on your device to remember things between visits. We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and (only with your consent) measure how Circles is used and catch errors so we can improve it.
Essential cookies always run because the platform cannot work without them. Analytics and error-tracking technologies only run after you accept them in our cookie banner. We also honor your browser's Do-Not-Track signal, we do not use cookies for advertising, and we never sell cookie data.
2. Essential cookies
Essential cookies are required for Circles to work: keeping you signed in, holding a class room session together, and protecting against account takeover. These cannot be disabled while you are using Circles.
- Authentication and session management.
- CSRF protection on forms and API calls.
- Theme preference (light or dark).
3. Analytics & error-tracking cookies
These help us see how features are used and catch errors, so we can fix what's broken and improve what's not. We use PostHog for product analytics and Sentry for error tracking. Both run only after you accept analytics in the cookie banner, and neither runs if you have not consented or if your browser sends a Do-Not-Track signal.
We aggregate this data where we can and do not enable it on accounts of children under 13. If session replay is enabled, it masks all inputs and text and is never recorded for a minor's account.
You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Privacy, or by clearing cookies and revisiting the banner.
4. Your choices
When you first visit, the cookie banner lets you accept or decline analytics and error tracking. Declining means only essential cookies are set. You can revisit this choice from Settings → Privacy.
You can also clear cookies from your browser at any time. Clearing the essential cookies will sign you out; clearing analytics cookies has no effect on what you can do in Circles. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies entirely, and Circles works fine without them.
5. Children's cookies
On accounts for children under 13, we only set the essential cookies and never set analytics or advertising cookies, regardless of any consent given in the banner. If session replay is in use elsewhere on the platform, it is never recorded for a minor's account.
Guardians can review and clear cookies for their child from the child's profile in Settings → Children & safety.
6. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if we change how we use cookies. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
